Other Products ｜Beach Boys Test Pressing – Celebration (Annotated)

A true grail for Beach Boys Collectors.
An original Beach Boys test pressing with handwritten annotations identifying material prepared for the album Celebration Recorded Live Big Sur Folk Festival Monterrey California 1970. The accompanying notes reference “Celebration” Monterrey Festival / Beach Boys, with the tracks “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and “Sloop John B” suggesting this was produced as a working reference copy rather than a commercial release.
As described by Mary...
"Each artist contributed two songs, but when the record was released the Beach Boys only had one on the album. Due to record label politics - they had just signed a deal with Reprise, so they were not eager to give away songs to another label - so they to came to a compromise. This test pressing is proof of that. It also shows how far they had gone before management force them to change the album. For Beach Boys collectors this would be the holy grail."

The handwritten annotations indicate this example was actively used, offering an intriguing snapshot of material being prepared, reviewed or sequenced behind the scenes.
Particularly notable is the inclusion of an unreleased recording of “Sloop John B”, showing that this disc contains material unavailable on the standard commercial release of the festival recording. The annotations make this an especially compelling piece for Beach Boys collectors and researchers.
This test pressing comes directly from the personal collection of Mary Cobra (Mary Ramirez), founding guitarist of The Detroit Cobras, whose archive reflects a lifelong appreciation of influential American rock and pop recordings.
