Grass Widow is Detroit's most historically resonant bourbon — a resurrection of a regional pre-Prohibition whiskey brand that Two James brought back to honor the Motor City's deep and largely forgotten whiskey roots. Created with the help of the legendary distilling consultant David Pickerell — the master distiller behind Maker's Mark for 14 years — Grass Widow is a high-rye bourbon mash bill of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% barley, aged in new oak then finished in ex-Madeira casks in Two James's proprietary Madeira Barrique finishing process. The Madeira influence is the signature and the story — taking a spicy, complex high-rye bourbon and layering it with the nutty, oxidative richness of Portugal's most historic fortified wine. The Madeira wine cask influence adds a dark, grapey taste and aroma that works alongside the sweetness and spice of the bourbon rather than overpowering it, while hazelnut, dried raisin, roasted nuts, figs, and dates from the Madeira finish give the bourbon a distinctive richness that sets it clearly apart from anything else in the high-rye bourbon category. Think Angel's Envy's port finish — but richer, spicier, and unmistakably Detroit. Buy Two James Grass Widow Bourbon online with fast shipping right to your door.
