Hayashi KoYo Ryukyu Japanese Whisky is the entry expression from Hayashi, the Okinawan producer that turns awamori, the Ryukyu Islands' 500-year-old rice spirit fermented with black koji, into oak-aged whisky. KoYo is a younger blend of those oak-matured spirits, bottled at 43% ABV in a 700ml bottle. It captures the vibrant, subtropical character of the islands: tropical fruit and a touch of sea breeze on the nose, a smooth palate with the warmth of oak, gentle vanilla and a clean rice-spirit sweetness, and a remarkably smooth, enduring finish. It is a natural in a highball with soda and citrus, and pleasant neat or on the rocks. This bottle is an affordable and unusual Japanese whisky for the curious drinker.
